Location: The ranch headquarters is located northeast of Black Canyon City on the Agua Fria River. The headquarters is reached from Interstate 17 Exit 242 (Rock Springs) onto east frontage road to Velda Rose then right on Mud Springs Road to Squaw Valley Road, then right to Melanie Lane, then left to Tara Springs Road, then right on Tara Springs Road to entrance to Cross Y Ranch, approximately 5.3 miles from Interstate 17 exit 242.

Total Acres or 30.9 Sections +/- Carrying Capacity: The BLM Cross Y Allotment allows 250 cattle year round. The headquarters pastures can be grazed by livestock in addition to the cattle allowed on the allotment. The headquarters pastures have traditionally been grazed by horses and roping and cutting stock. Thus the carrying capacity of the ranch is what is allowed under the BLM Cross Y Allotment of 250 cattle.
Real Estate Taxes: The Yavapai County Assessor's parcel numbers for the deeded land are: 501-20-003A, 501-20-003C, 501-20-003G, 502-02-001D and 502-02-001G. The 2014 real estate taxes for the deeded land totaled $13,870.
AGUA FRIA NATIONAL MONUMENT: The ranch is completely within the Agua Fria National Monument, which is under the BLM management jurisdiction. The ranch deeded land is surrounded by BLM land or land held by the Conservation Fund, guaranteeing no development will occur adjacent to the ranch deeded land. The ranch and the Conservation Fund each have water rights on the Agua Fria River for stockwater and irrigation use. Livestock grazing within the Agua Fria National Monument is a recognized use and administered through the BLM range section.

Water: The Cross Y Ranch has 5 wells registered with the Arizona Department of Water Resources, 3 of which are located on the deeded land at the headquarters. The Cross Y Ranch holds surface water rights to water in the Agua Fria River under Arizona Department of Water Resources Water Rights Registry Claim #36-64991. The Cross Y Ranch water rights under this claim are to 5 acre feet annually for stockwater use and 171 acre feet annually for irrigation use. The ranch has 5 stockponds registered with the Arizona Department of Water Resources. One stockpond (Pasture Tank) is shared equally with the Conservation Fund (Claim 38-65602). There is a holding lake for water diverted from the Agua Fria River for irrigation use. The Conservation Fund holds 5 acre feet annually for stockwater use and 54 acre feet annually for irrigation use under Arizona Department of Water Resources Water Rights Registry Claim #36-64991, which is separate from and, in addition, to the rights of the Cross Y Ranch. There are approximately 25 acres that are irrigated from the irrigation water right on the Agua Fria River. The water is diverted upstream from the headquarters, held in a lake where it is taken into a pipeline, which flows by gravity to the various fields at the headquarters. About 5 acres of pasture are irrigated with solid set sprinklers and the balance is flood irrigated. There are several springs and live water for livestock scattered over the ranch along the Agua Fria River and in side canyons that are tributaries to the river.
Elevation: The headquarters is at an elevation of 2,142 feet Above Sea Level (ASL). The north end of the ranch is at an elevation of about 3,500 feet ASL on the Black Mesa.
Climate: Black Canyon City reports an average of 16 inches of rain per year. Snowfall is 2 inches. The number of days with any measurable precipitation is 46. On average, there are 276 sunny days per year in Black Canyon City, AZ. The July high is around 103 degrees. The January low is 40. The climate can be characterized as warm summers and cool winters.
Vegetation: The Cross Y Ranch is on the northern end of the Sonoran Desert. The southern end of the ranch is characterized by mesquite trees, saguaro cactus, palo verde, catclaw, and grasses such as three awn, sand dropseed and seasonal afilaria. As you travel north up through the ranch the range changes as the elevation increases until up on the mesa, there are a few juniper trees, prickly pear cactus, tobosa grass, sideoats grama, Arizona cottontop and shrubby buckwheat.
Topography: The topography is one of deep canyons, rugged steep sides and open level mesas on top.

Remarks: The Cross Y Ranch is a unique property. The ranch controls all traffic from the south through the deeded land and all access into the ranch are through locked gates with ranch and BLM locks.
